Testing and assessment

Students are regularly engaged in various types of assesment processes in order to establish patterns of learning, levels of understanding and profiency of skill sets. Additionally, some nationally recognised testing procedure are employed in order to ascertain levels of prior knowledge, particularly around the areas of literacy and numeracy.

In May of each year, students in years 3, 5 and 7 participate in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy, or NAPLAN, as it is commonly known. Skills such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy are tested within the classroom environment under prescribed conditions.

It is important for you and your child to know that NAPLAN is not a pass/fail test. It simply compares the level students are achieving in literacy and numeracy against National Standards with student peers throughout Australia. Later in the year, individual NAPLAN reports are issued for viewing and monitoring purposes.
